Summer Course Announcement: ART 350 2D Animation (Special Topics)

The course will focus on creating 2D animation within the context of the classical principles of animation applied in a digital environment. We’ll explore Adobe Flash and the unique abilities that it offers the animator, including special effects and interactivity.
Some of the topics covered will include:
- Understanding how physics applies to objects in motion
- Using psychology to convincingly exaggerate or break the rules of physics
- Disney’s “12 Principles of Animation”
- Storyboarding
- Creating micro-narratives
- Drawing in Flash
- Using Symbols and Interactivity
- Special Effects
- Working with Graphics
- Working with Sound
- Using ActionScript to control movie behavior
Class time will consist of:
- discussion of principles and techniques
- screening examples of classic and contemporary animation
- technical tutorials and exercises
- work on creative projects
