Artist Statement
Recurrent interests visibly woven throughout my work derive from the
corporeal and biology; gardening; history; and playful speculation on
the nature of gender and natural selection. One of my fascinations is
with modern and archaic systems of visualizing science, particularly the
Enlightenment illustrations permeated by metaphors of dividing, decoding,
separating, analyzing and fathoming, images that reflect the desire to
obtain the “interior” of things, to visualize “the depths”.
My artwork is an accretion of these things - persistent metaphors, historical
events, mechanical and organic objects - all indissolubly attached to
the emotional and social residue of subsequent years of usage, and revealing
complex layers of physical and psychological processes.
