Facilities
The printmaking area is located in the lower level of the Art Department, housed in the Center for the Arts on the U.B. North Campus. Printmaking facilities are outstanding, intelligently organized, and include large studios with natural light and state of the art ventilation. We support all forms of image-making including lithography, intaglio, waterbased screen-printing, hybrid experimental and photopolyer letterpress. We have incorperated non-toxic processes encompassing a range of printing techniques; including pre-sensitized plates, Toray waterless plates, safer mordants, and the use of photopolymer films for creating polymer plates and as a mordant resist. Major equipment includes:
  • 5 Brand etching presses
  • 3 Takach-Garfield lithography presses
  • Large selection of limestone
  • Back lit washout booth with power washer
  • NU-ARC MSP 3140 Screen & Plate Exposure Unit, screen drying box, screen storage racks. Maxium Screen size for exposure unit 31"x 41" OD
  • Vandercook Model 4 proof press, 99 galley proof press, type & related equipment
  • Main Print Labs have Mac G5s w/medium format injet printers letter size scanners and Ethernet connections.
  • Print Digital Arts Lab houses: 3 Mac G5 Towers w/LCD Monitors, Epson 10000XL Tabloid Scanner, Epson 3000 Archival, HP 5100 LaserJet and Ethernet connections.
  • The adjacent Large Format Print lab (BAP)has an Epson 4000, Epson 10000, and an HP 650C DesignJet 24" wide format inkjet printer.
