The Sculpture Program at the University of Buffalo's Department of Art offers a complete curriculum at the undergraduate and the graduate levels.

The courses give students intensified studio experiences to provide them with the most effective base upon which to build their future careers as professional sculptors.

The undergraduate and graduate programs in sculpture are designed to give students extensive opportunities for theoretical knowledge and applied training in a broad spectrum of sculpture.

The programs foremost goal is to develop educated individuals who are thinking , decisive, and creative sculptors, capable of complex problem solving and heightened visual perception, possessing an awareness of sculpture's cultural and historical context.

Sculpture as a means of visual expression and communication have evolved slowly but decisively.

Sculpture has been traditionally one of the most powerfully creative and expressive of the visual arts. Within this century, it has expanded in all aspects, but especially in many techniques.

This change resulted because of the introduction of casting methods: sheet and poured metals, plastics, joining methods, methods of fabrication with these different materials, and multi-media interaction, to name a few.

Some of the areas covered by the Sculpture program include:

*Design

*Basic and advanced figurative sculpture

*Anatomy

*Stone and wood carving

*Moldmaking as a prerequisite to foundry and required for figurative sculpture

*Fabrication

*Foundry

*Welding

*Drawing

*History of contemporary and historical sculpture

*Electives in other Art Department programs and departments of the students choice, including Art History, if qualified or open.

*Lectures and seminars by visiting sculptures and Casting Institute Fellows
