Painting

Painting generates much enthusiasm among its practitioners here at UB. Issues of presentation and representation, vision and visuality are examined throughout progressive course work that leads to greater student autonomy. Diverse traditional techniques, conceptual motivations and performative strategies are investigated in each course encouraging students to discover in their own practice historical/ cultural/ social contexts.

From basic painting courses to independent studio research painters develop private visions, imagine possibilities, work collaboratively, stage performances, hold public discussions, curate exhibitions in off campus locations and show their work in local, regional and international venues. Special scholarships are available based on financial need, academic achievement and studio promise.
