Binding, sewing, weaving, wearing, stacking, extending, integrating, sequencing, assembling, welding, casting, carving, enacting, transacting… these are some of the methods that activate the process of making. The Sculpture/Installation program encourages students to investigate and explore these and other methods and actions. Students apply such processes across all discilplines. Because object making and a diverse range of fabrication techniques and technologies is common to most methods of expression throughout contemporary art practice, the program engages the material, technical, aesthetic and theoretical dimensions within contemporary practice. Emphasis is placed on students' problem solving abilities and conceptual development while engaging the formal parameters and technical demands consistant with art production. Students are encouraged to develop a keen interest in critical ideas and issues through studio seminars and humanities courses developing a critical understanding of the socio-economic and political conditions which influence artistic production and consumption.
