Photography Minor

The Photography Minor Sequence consists of at least eight courses (24 hours) in the Department of Visual Studies. These are six studio and two history courses in photography. The courses are:

Studio

ART 210 Introduction to Digital Photography
ART 313 Photography Extended
ART 314 Photography: Image & Text, plus three elective 300- or 400-level photography courses chosen with advisement.

History

ART 348 History of Photography
ART 449 Topics in 20th Century Photography

Students will be approved for the Minor in Photography only after application and portfolio review. Application should preferably be made upon successful completion of ART 314. Portfolios are reviewed in mid-Fall and mid-Spring.

The Department of Visual Studies expects the Photography Minor sequence to support the student's Major program in another department.

Students in the Photography Minor take the same courses as Photography Majors. They are part of the same departmental advisement system as Majors. A minimum GPA of 2.5 must be maintained to stay in the Photography Minor sequence.

NOTE: BFA Majors are advised not to take a Minor. Photography BA Majors, however, are encouraged to choose a Minor in another department, with advisement.
